BFA Thesis
About
Chloe Macaulay is an artist based in Boston, MA. Her oil painting practice is rooted in materially driven processes that embody the layering of skin and body, reflecting her experiences with Classical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Her research draws from art history, philosophy, and the sciences to explore the connections between art and medicine. Fragile internal networks and incidental biological mimicry inform her intuitive biomorphic abstractions, through which she investigates the psychological and physical dimensions of enduring pain, fear, and resilience.
An incoming MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she previously earned her BFA in Painting and Art History from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating magna cum laude and receiving the Hazel H. Huntsinger Memorial Prize in Painting. Chloe’s work has recently been featured at Mr. Z Gallery in SoWa, Boston in the group exhibitions Keepsake at the Des Lee Gallery in St. Louis. Her work is held in the collection of Washington University in St. Louis.
